The word relaxation itself has many connotations, depending on the needs, desires and pressures of a particular society. These pressures influence and spring from our very existence. They encourage inventiveness, spur us on and promote self-evaluation. Pressure therefore has a positive side that can be enhanced by the use of relaxation techniques, but it is when pressure threatens to create unmanageable levels of stress that those techniques are most effective.

The tone, volume, pitch and quality reflect our feelings and express our tension. We judge and are judged by others according to the voice tone that is being used. Indeed, we are more likely to respond to the tone of a voice than to the content of its message. The advantages of relaxing the voice can easily be understood by clients when you have established with them where tension is felt when they are talking. In this way you can help them to recognize that relaxing the neck, throat and chest helps them to breathe more deeply and project their voice more fully with the least effort.
